I have a medical condition prevents me working, If I quit can I get unemployment

Unemployment-QuestionQ) I currently work for the city of New York and reside in Queens, NY. I have a medical condition which sometimes prevents me from reporting to work some days. I have asked my employer to be transferred to a closer location or to cut my work hours to around part-time work but they refuse. It’s a travel hardship that’s taken its toll. If I quit due to medical reasons, can I receive unemployment? I’m able to work and want to find something closer to my home and part-time.

A) Unfortunately in most cases, if you quit your job (even doe to an illness) you are not eligible for unemployment. However, if you left for a good reason such as not being paid, an unsafe or unhealthy work environment, a change in your job responsibilities, discrimination, health and safety risks on the job, or some types of family emergencies you may qualify for unemployment benefits.
