Q) Am I eligible for Unemployment insurance? I had worked a school for 3 years, although it was only a 10.5 month position. Due to divorce and liquidation of assets, had to sell home. I could not afford living in the location I was, so I resigned and moved out of state to live with mother. I have not been able to find work now for 3 months. I considered it a family emergency, because my 16 year old daugher and I would have had to stay in a homeless shelter.

A) To be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits you need to meet state requirements for minimum earnings during the base period and minimum time of work. Generally, you must have worked for at least a year prior to filing for benefits. You stated that “I had worked a school for 3 years”, you generally should qualify for unemployment benefits if you have worked for 3 years. Please visit your state unemployment benefits website and apply or visit your local unemployment office to apply.
